Let's pick a show for the Patreon rewatch!

Okay gang, looks like we're going to go through with the group rewatch! We'll come up with a schedule and set up all the bells and whistles but the first order of business is figuring out what show to watch.

The idea is to make this accessible for first time and repeat watchers, so don't worry if you haven't seen it before. Here are your three choices and my case for each:

THE AMERICANS — One of my favorite shows of all time, and one that I haven't revisited since it ended in 2018. The last year of shutdowns, growing wealth inequality, and racial injustice has pushed my politics further left. I've spent a lot of time investigating the systemic problems that we are confronting and a lot of them stem from the 1980s. With all that in mind, a spy thriller told from the Soviet side of the Cold War sounds more than worthy of a rewatch.

BREAKING BAD — Over the past 2 years of doing this channel, I've found myself more and more interested in the idea of the Difficult Man, the TV antihero. I've mentioned it in videos about The Shield, You, Killing Eve, and The Sopranos and while I've often referenced Breaking Bad, I haven't actually rewatched it since it wrapped up back in 2013. I've thought a lot about it, especially in comparison to Better Call Saul, but I'm forgetting what the experience of watching it was, and that would be an important (and exciting) thing to return to.

LOST — Lost is the show that got me interested in TV. I took a class on it in college, fell in love with TV, and the rest is history. Nothing frustrates me more than people who rag on this beautiful show (and its beautiful ending) and I am very interested in making an In Defense of Lost video essay at some point in the future. To do that, I'll need to rewatch the whole thing, so you might as well tag along! *Note: there is a pretty prominent Lost rewatch podcast happening right now from Joanna Robinson (a senior writer at Vanity Fair) called The Storm.

I gave up before the end of season 1

Definitely The Americans for me. Even though it's not available on Prime in Canada, I watched Season 1 and then didn't have the motivation to continue (longer episodes are so hard for me). But I did always want to keep going, so this might be the incentive I need :)

Oh man, I just bailed on Lost (S02E03) because ultimately, it was not for me. I'd be interested to see in a defence of someday. I really loathed it at some points.
