It's also very nuanced in the ways it approaches the law as a social construct. Where does the show get this perspective and could it be a template for creating a cop show that is not copaganda?

Not arguing against Veronica Mars as the subject - where did that idea come from? - just thought while the private-eye roundup was happening, Jim Rockford might at least warrant a mention.

2023-11-08 15:20:12 +0000 UTCthere are many great noir private investigator shows (perry mason as well!) but i picked Veronica Mars because it's my favorite, i'm familiar with it, and i think that the dad as sheriff aspect gave me a perfect in-road to talk about both sheriffs specifically and the way the show directly interacts with policing

2023-11-06 03:24:51 +0000 UTCJust watched the pilot episode last night - won't say I'm hooked yet, but definitely worth a few more episodes to see if the hook sets. Was anyone else skeezed-out whenever her dad says "Who's your daddy?" I know it gets lampshaded when she says "I hate it when you say that," but it still comes off as super-creepy; the fact that, in the long tradition of TV dramas casting 20-somethings as high schoolers, Kristen Bell was ~24 in that episode doesn't actually help -- if anything it makes it easier for me to imagine her and her "dad" gettin' funky with it. I hope his character doesn't continue w/ that. OTOH, "Well, if it isn’t Smokey the Barely Legal" made me LOL.
