As soon as you pants him on TV he becomes "the presidential candidate who got pantsed on live tv" and his supporters have to find a new "strongman" to build their cult around. Instead the establishment keeps treating him as a normal political figure who needs to be allowed to contribute to "the marketplace of ideas" instead of the joke that he is, and we get Biden effectively pantsing himself on live TV with a horrible debate performance.
