Would it be much better to have voice actors in the game?

We have never had voice actors in the game.

We have not had any experience working with voice actors and have no channels, so we have put it on the back burner.

However, we have received a lot of feedback about not having voice actors in the game.

Would it be much better to have voice actors in the game?

Please give us your opinion.

+ Including voice actors would cost money and time. We wonder if voice actors are worth prioritizing over other content additions.

Would it be much better to have voice actors in the game?

Late to the party here, but I’m a voice actor, and would love to help out if you decided to go that route!

No voice acting if it compromises the quality or the game development. Focus on quality and gameplay first πŸ‘

If actors that are easy to work with are available, I would say go with the voice actors. If not, Elevenlabs.io lets you clone voices, which I would not advise. But you can combine multiple sources to create original voices. And the site has several inhouse created voices that are pretty good. Their text to speech can sound a little robotic and require many takes to get right. But they also do voice to voice conversion which lets you control pronunciation and inflection.

Plus the fees for good voice actors will be higher, that's why I think focusing on the game itself is enough

I don't mind voice acting but I don't think it's necessary, maybe just for some battle grunts but it's highly optional, in my opinion

Jawn

Having a character's voice can make it easier to empathize with them, but I don't think it's necessarily necessary for a game with a bland story structure. Hiring a voice actor can cause various inconveniences such as development costs and schedule adjustments.

I don't mind some voice acting for bosses or something. I really don't like when a male player character has a voice lol. I always want to mute it. I also think adding voice might take a long time.

blu fal

For bosses and games with single character, it would be a nice addition. However its not necessary. It would be better to have more polished content rather than VA.

EastMeister

In a game like crawling lab? No in a game that focusses on a single character? Probably. (Also it s still august time to be convincing Β°_Β°)

I would take more/better content over voice acting any day of the week. Good voice acting can add depth to a character but so can writing, animation, and pretty much everything else. Focus on your strengths/what you enjoy doing first and foremost

And to add to what I posted, yeah, you would have the issue of having to have VA on many languages, or at lease 3 of them (Korean, English and Japanese). Plus eTIRUe games always feel like they can exist to any culture or language of people. Forrest of Relics and The Last Saintess are more Western looking, but don't have that feeling of restriction, like it takes place in "our world" allowing for more immersion and suspension of our imaginations. Velina could be American, she could be French, she could be just about anything, but once you put a VA behind her, she is put into a square box, as a character and her world/game. The technical limitations of great games, is what makes them charming and memorable. Even games with millions of dollars at their disposal, are failing... so quantity definitely does not equal quality.

I shouldn't being using Western sayings to a Korean company, so I'll explain what "Can of Worms" means, haha. "A complex, troublesome situation arising when a decision or action produces considerable subsequent problems."

Even when it comes to hiring a Youtuber or a V-Tuber, it runs high risk. Look at what Yong Yea did to Kazuma Kiryu. People destroyed him and the game for his mediocre performance. You just really can't control or predict the outcome of using a VA, even if they are talented. I get people why would like VA in games, as their are many reason why it could help a game be better... but it comes with too much risk and baggage now a days, in 2024. Plus I feel like the average eTIRUe game, has a lot of their charm, because of the limitations that are presented in being small, indie games. We all found the ending to Abyss School to be either really sad, or powerful right? I bet we wouldn't feel that way, if a VA messed it up... Not to mention the issue with broken English. My ideas are not to push the idea of fully banning the concept of eTIRUe games using VA... but you need to trend VERY carefully. I honestly do not think it is worth the risk, unless it is VA from eTIRuE or someone close to them, themselves. And AI-VA should be out of the question, unless you have a VERY impressive program you are using... which could work... but having AI content in your games, is another "can of worms" all in it's own.

JAD

There is a LOT of weight the comes with using VA, especially in 2024. From the quality of the VA, their work history can effect your games, the drama that they can bring from their personal lives/social media lives to your product. I would personally be VERY against having VA in your games. It is too much of a high risk, for a small game making company. Now if the people on your own staff have enough talent to do it, then absolutely yes. Or if you have family and friends, wanting to build a VA portfolio and come to you for work, sure. But that should be the extent of it. I can't tell you how many times, in the past 10 years alone, that a VA has caused some kind of harm or drama, to a product they had worked on. Dragon Ball Z, Hazbin Hotel, The Last of Us 2, so on. Dude, Alec Baldwin voiced acted the lead character in Boss Baby, a movie I still love, and he KILLED someone! Yeah... you can't control what these "outsiders" do, and one wrong step, and it can bring down eTIRUe, whether it was eTIRUe's fault or not. Now yes, Dragon Ball Z and what not are still alive and doing well, but you can't compare a multi-million dollar, multi-decade long franchise to eTIRUe... it is NOT worth the risk, in my option. Again, if they are close to eTIRUe and want to do VA, I say totally go for it, but as for trying to hire a "professional" VA... NO.
