Ch. 139 Earthling's Cunning
Added 2023-11-10 16:00:08 +0000 UTCBlatantly threatening an ancient cosmic god that existed since the birth of the universe, Russell felt he was brimming with exceptional courage at this moment.
To be precise, he was in a state of super courage.
Even facing Knull, such an ancient god, he exhibited an attitude free of fear.
Knull, still attached to Grendel's body, appeared greatly displeased with his deathly pale face. However, upon seeing the white phosphorus grenade in Russell's left hand and the ultrasonic emitter in his right hand, the ancient god made a rational decision.
"Human, I agree to this trade!"
Although Knull's attitude remained aloof, Russell didn't mind in the slightest.
As long as Knull agreed to the trade, everything else was minor.
Hearing Knull's response, he put away the white phosphorus grenade in his left hand and lowered his right hand that had aimed at Grendel's head.
"It's my honor to engage in a transaction with a magnificent god like you."
Since Knull had conceded, Russell didn't mind showing him some respect.
Seeing the deferential expression on Russell's face, Knull nodded in satisfaction.
However, in the next second, Russell's voice rang out again.
"Now that you've agreed, you shouldn't mind detaching yourself from Grendel's body, right?"
"If you continue to inhabit Grendel's body, I won't feel secure."
"I'm just a human from Earth. I believe you can understand my concerns."
Russell put forth a new request to Knull.
From a safety perspective, this request was reasonable.
However, for some reason, upon hearing Russell's words, Knull felt that something was amiss.
Knull didn't immediately respond; he remained silent for more than ten seconds, deep in thought.
After serious contemplation, Knull finally spoke in a deliberate manner, "Very well!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the legs on his towering body, connected to Grendel's head, lifted.
Subsequently, under Russell's gaze, Knull descended from Grendel's head, coming before him.
When Knull came down, Russell realized that Knull was slightly taller than he had imagined.
Knull, towering over 2.5 meters in height, resembled a small giant standing before him.
While Russell was sizing up Knull, the god was also scrutinizing him.
Despite having lived for a long time, Knull had never encountered someone like Russell who openly threatened him.
Furthermore, he was quite intrigued by Serum's symbiote abilities that Russell possessed.
Russell wasn't a symbiote, nor was he possessed by one, yet he could still wield symbiote abilities.
Just as Knull was about to inquire how Russell had achieved this, Russell suddenly raised both his hands and aimed the palm of his hands at Knull, who had descended from Grendel's head.
Without any hesitation, Russell activated the ultrasonic emitters in both his palms at full power.
Buzz!!!
High-frequency ultrasonic waves resonated instantly, resembling a buzzing sound.
Knull had no time to react before various sizes of uncontrollable tendrils appeared all over his massive body.
Knull hadn't expected Russell, who had just spoken respectfully to him, to resort to violence.
Although anger surged within him at being deceived, he was currently powerless.
Under the suppression of ultrasonic waves, Knull involuntarily knelt down, casting a furious glare at Russell, as if wanting to rip him apart alive.
However, he could only fantasize about such an outcome now.
After suppressing Knull with the ultrasonic emitters in the palms of his hands, Russell simultaneously activated the ultrasonic emitter located on his chest.
Moreover, several white tendrils emerged from the back of Endosymbiotic Battle Armor, quickly transforming into horn-shaped amplifiers that emitted ultrasonic waves. While these waves were harmless to humans, they were deadly to symbiotes.
Once both the chest and back ultrasonic emitters were fully activated, Russell wasted no time and retrieved several items from the system space.
A silver-white box that resembled a coffin.
A large container of liquid nitrogen.
A flamethrower.
Seeing Russell retrieve these items from the system space, Knull's realization dawned upon him.
From the start, Russell had never intended to trade with Knull.
The reason he had spoken to Knull earlier had solely been to deceive him into leaving Grendel's body.
Although Russell possessed considerable combat abilities now, manipulating souls was beyond his skill set.
He wasn't a mage!
He had no means to deal with souls!
If Knull refused to leave Grendel's body, Russell's only course of action would be to eliminate Grendel entirely, then pray that Knull's soul would dissipate due to the fundamental rules of the world, in the absence of its physical vessel.
Superficially, this might seem like a good method to eradicate Knull's soul.
But Russell didn't dare to gamble.
If the soul lacked the support of a physical body, he wasn't entirely certain whether it could exist independently.
Had he pursued further education at Kamar-Taj, he might have learned the accurate answer.
If the world's fundamental rules were different from his assumptions, or if Knull's soul could indeed persist without a physical form, he would have to watch Knull depart helplessly, only for the god to return seeking revenge at an unforeseen time.
Hence, he needed a more secure method, a more reliable plan.
Therefore, he decided to show Knull the cunning of Earth's humanity.
First, lower Knull's guard with the idea of a trade.
Next, induce Knull to willingly leave Grendel's body.
Finally, reseal Knull along with his new body in a frozen state.
Although Russell wasn't sure whether souls in this world could exist independently from their bodies, the fact that Knull and Grendel had been frozen together indicated one thing: if the body was frozen, Knull's soul would similarly enter a dormant state.
If not for this, there was no explanation for why Knull and Grendel had remained frozen for such a long time.
The chest and back ultrasonic emitters were emitting high-frequency ultrasonic waves at full power. Russell grabbed the flamethrower he had retrieved from the system space and unleashed a torrent of flames toward Knull.
Under the combined assault of high-temperature flames and ultrasonic waves, the towering Knull, standing over two meters in height, soon couldn't endure it any longer. He lay in agony on the ground, curled into a ball.
As Knull's life force grew weaker, Russell controlled Endosymbiotic Battle Armor to release a new white tendril, opened the large container of liquid nitrogen, and poured it onto Knull's body.
With the pouring of liquid nitrogen, Knull, curled into a ball, quickly froze.
Once Knull was frozen, Russell picked up the frozen Knull, along with the ice, and placed them inside the metallic box that resembled a coffin.
After placing Knull inside, he poured the remaining liquid nitrogen into the box, then tightly sealed it shut.
After completing these actions, he retracted the coffin-like silver-white box back into the system space.
Freezing, metallic sealing box, system space.
If Knull could still escape under these circumstances, then Russell would have no choice but to consider a visit to Kamar-Taj and seek the assistance of professionals.
Grendel, a mountain-like entity, lay nearby, witnessing the entire process of Russell's attacks and the freezing of Knull.
From a racial perspective, Grendel should have intervened to protect its own creator from such brutal treatment.
But in the end, Grendel did nothing; it lay still on the ground, feigning death.
