Ch. 296 Hurricane Divine Power

After dodging the tornado attack from below, Russell hovered in the air and silently assessed his assailant.

Judging by appearances, the attacker was a somewhat unremarkable middle-aged man with messy light blue hair and a gloomy expression, giving off an unfriendly vibe.

Like Ivette beside him, this middle-aged man was clad in golden armor.

However, what drew the most attention was not the armor on the middle-aged man but the enormous sword he carried on his back.

This was an appropriately named giant sword; the blade alone exceeded two meters in length and was more than thirty centimeters wide.

Including the hilt, the giant sword measured nearly two and a half meters in length.

The sword's size was astonishing, and its condition was peculiar.

From the outside, this giant sword did not appear to be a well-maintained treasure but rather a rusty and battered relic, as if it had been excavated from some ancient battlefield.

Although the giant sword didn't look impressive, Russell sensed a pronounced magical aura emanating from it.

Magic greatswords of this size were quite rare!

Unlike ordinary swords, magic greatswords required higher craftsmanship and demanded higher-quality materials. Apart from that, the material for the blade had to be enchantable.

While ordinary materials could be enchanted, the enchantment's effectiveness would be significantly reduced, and the duration of magical effects would be noticeably shortened.

Russell didn't recognize this middle-aged man carrying the giant sword, but one thing he was certain of was that this man's strength wouldn't be much inferior to the Lord of Windrest Fortress.

The recent tornado attack had demonstrated this.

Unless something unexpected occurred, this middle-aged man was undoubtedly one of Windrest Fortress few high-level forces.

After confirming this, Russell's gaze towards the middle-aged man changed slightly.

Although he was currently assisting Thor, it didn't mean he didn't want to have some fun in this siege. Otherwise, he wouldn't have participated in this war at all.

While Russell scrutinized the middle-aged man with the giant sword, the middle-aged man was also assessing him.

After both of them silently observed each other for a while, they simultaneously launched their attacks.

Russell wielded the Sword of Athena and flew rapidly toward the middle-aged man.

The middle-aged man drew the rusty giant sword from his back, stood his ground, and waited for Russell's approach.

Clang!

In just the blink of an eye, Russell's Sword of Athena clashed loudly and crisply with the middle-aged man's giant sword, creating a resounding impact.

As the weapons clashed, the ground beneath the middle-aged man's feet shattered with a resounding roar, revealing a web-like network of massive cracks.

Although the middle-aged man managed to block Russell's attack, Russell's strength far exceeded his expectations.

The astonishing force transmitted through the giant sword to the middle-aged man.

He then expertly redirected the force to the ground using a deflection technique.

After blocking Russell's attack, the guards surrounding Ivette immediately moved forward, attempting to encircle Russell.

However, before Russell could act, the middle-aged man with the giant sword gave him a displeased look.

Then, he made an unexpected move that no one had anticipated.

The middle-aged man first forcefully pushed Russell away and then executed a Whirlwind Strike that should not have been used in the current environment.

The rusty giant sword, carrying terrifying force, swept out a perfectly circular trajectory.

Due to being pushed away earlier, Russell managed to evade the giant sword's attack range.

But those Vanir warriors attempting to attack him were not so fortunate.

They never expected to receive a devastating blow from their teammate, especially not a Whirlwind Strike that could be lethal.

Boom!

Unable to dodge in time, five or six Vanir warriors were struck by the rusty giant sword and were sent flying with pained expressions.

"This guy's got some style!" Russell thought as he looked at the middle-aged man's performance.

Although he didn't know the middle-aged man before him, he accurately sensed what the man wanted to convey.

This was a battle meant for them!

After knocking away his teammates who were trying to help him, the middle-aged man turned his gaze back to Russell.

Then, he launched an attack towards Russell.

Clang, clang, clang, clang, clang...

With an icy expression, the middle-aged man attacked Russell like a berserker, launching a relentless assault with his giant sword from various angles.

The massive size of the giant sword did not restrict his movements, and it carried tremendous force, striking Russell from different angles.

Furthermore, as the giant sword came at Russell, it unleashed invisible, razor-sharp wind blades.

If it were an ordinary warrior facing the middle-aged man's relentless giant sword attacks and unpredictable wind blade assaults, they would have been cut into pieces within moments.

However, unfortunately for the middle-aged man, he wasn't facing an ordinary person. He was facing Russell, who possessed a Kryptonian physiology and also knew magic.

The invisible and colorless wind blades were challenging to perceive with the naked eye, but the magical energy on the wind blades served as the perfect marker.

While Russell's super-vision primarily provided enhanced physical vision, he could easily sense the magical energy on the wind blades, allowing him to determine their location and trajectory.

In simpler terms, he could "see" these invisible and colorless wind blades.

With their concealment removed, blocking these wind blades wasn't any harder than blocking regular attacks.

Realizing that his combined attacks with the giant sword and wind blades couldn't hit Russell, the middle-aged man's expression darkened, and he adopted a new tactic.

He raised the giant sword in his hand and, like an ancient beast, charged straight at Russell.

Clang!

Although the middle-aged man was fast, Russell effortlessly parried his attack.

However, at that moment, the rusty giant sword suddenly radiated a powerful blue light.

Hurricane Divine Power!

The middle-aged man unleashed his Hurricane Divine Power, causing the giant sword that had already been blocked to erupt with astonishing force, pressing toward Russell.

Russell didn't know what the middle-aged man was thinking, but he didn't dwell on it. While holding the Sword of Athena to defend against the attack, he abruptly raised his left hand, sending a silver-white lightning bolt, as thick as an arm, towards the middle-aged man.

Rumble!

At this close range, the middle-aged man didn't have time to evade. The silver-white lightning bolt struck him in the chest, sending him flying backward.

Before the middle-aged man could land, Russell, like a ghost, followed suit. With the Sword of Athena in hand, he thrust it directly at the man's throat.

Just as the Sword of Athena was about to strike, the middle-aged man's body once again radiated a bright blue light.

Subsequently, he glided out of the city wall, retreating tens of meters in an instant.

Quick reflexes, huh!

Seeing the middle-aged man surrounded by a whirlwind, floating in the air, Russell stopped at the edge of the inner city wall, looking at him with interest.

If the middle-aged man had been a step slower, the Sword of Athena would have effortlessly pierced his neck like cutting through paper.

But obviously, the middle-aged man wasn't one of those mediocre Vanir warriors.

With the Hurricane Divine Power he possessed, he not only had rich combat experience but also extremely sharp combat instincts.

Knowing that he couldn't withstand Russell's lightning-fast strike, he chose to abandon resistance, harnessed the furious wind, and accelerated his backward flight, avoiding Russell's attack range.

After hovering in the air, the middle-aged man didn't immediately launch an attack against Russell but watched him with a solemn expression.

The combined assault of the giant sword and wind blades was his specialty, and countless enemies had fallen to this tactic.

Although he hadn't displayed dazzling sword techniques just now, the focus of this tactic wasn't on the giant sword itself but on the invisible wind blades that couldn't be detected with the naked eye.

In the previous engagement, the primary role of the giant sword was to divert the enemy's attention. One was a massive giant sword, and the other was imperceptible wind blades. Normal people would focus on the giant sword, overlooking the undetectable wind blades.

Of course, if the opponent had focused on the wind blades, he wouldn't have minded using the giant sword to directly kill them.

However, he hadn't expected Russell to not only block the giant sword but also have spare energy to pay attention to the surrounding wind blades.

What surprised him even more was that Russell's physical strength was sufficient to easily block a giant sword powered by the Hurricane Divine Power.

Where did this guy come from?

Like the Lord of Windrest Fortress, the middle-aged man was well aware of the powerful individuals in Asgard.

Although Russell didn't know what the middle-aged man was thinking, he could clearly see the confusion and shock on the middle-aged man's face.

After casually dispatching a clever and daring Vanir warrior who had attempted to ambush him on the battlefield, Russell made an unexpected move that caught the middle-aged man off guard.

In an instant, he disappeared from sight.

When he reappeared, he was on the city wall, in front of Ivette, the sole daughter of the Lord of Windrest Fortress.

"Miss Ivette, it's been a while!"

As soon as he spoke, Russell, who had appeared in front of Ivette as if he had teleported, moved behind her.

Then, he tapped the back of Ivette's head with the hilt of the Sword of Athena.

Although Ivette was wearing armor, she hadn't put on a helmet. Perhaps she thought wearing a helmet didn't look good or was unnecessary.

However, now Russell taught her a lesson through action.

When your strength isn't strong enough to completely do without armor, it's best to wear a full set of armor during combat because you never know when someone will launch an attack on your head.

For instance, right now.

Ivette never expected that one day she would be knocked unconscious on the battlefield, especially with her guards around.

After being struck in the back of the head by the hilt of the Sword of Athena, Ivette lost consciousness without any suspense, and her alluring figure tumbled toward the ground, face down.

As the instigator, Russell had no intention of helping Ivette. He allowed her to fall to the ground, face down.

For a woman, falling face down was a painful experience.

It brought both physical and psychological pain.

However, for Ivette, a Vanir, it was more of a psychological pain.

As Ivette fell toward the ground, Russell didn't stand idle. He swung the Sword of Athena once again.

Swish, swish, swish...

After a few simple and brutal slashes, the guards around Ivette had all reported to Vanaheimr's Hall of Heroes.

Only after Russell had dealt with all the guards around Ivette did the middle-aged man, who was flying in the air with the hurricane, remember that his current task was to ensure Ivette's safety, not engage in a one-on-one duel with Russell.

Seeing Russell pointing the Sword of Athena at the unconscious Ivette, the middle-aged man's expression became extremely grim.

Then, he descended onto the city wall, gazing at Russell with a satisfied killing intent.

"I don't like it when people look at me with that kind of expression."

As he spoke, Russell placed the tip of the Sword of Athena on the back of Ivette's neck.

"What do you want to do?"

The middle-aged man suppressed his killing intent and said coldly.

"You're also an awakened being with divine power. I believe your status in Windrest Fortress shouldn't be too low."

"What I want is straightforward. I want the books that record information about divine powers from the Vanaheimr."

Divine power books?

After hearing Russell's words, the middle-aged man was momentarily stunned.

He hadn't expected that what Russell wanted would be books about divine powers.

"Don't you have any?"

Russell calmly asked.

"No!"

The middle-aged man said with an displeased expression.

"Uh... There should be many of them in the Lord's Mansion. With your status, you should be able to retrieve them."

Russell spoke nonchalantly.

Under normal circumstances, the middle-aged man would definitely not entertain Russell's request.

However, now he didn't dare to gamble.

The tip of the Sword of Athena was currently at the back of Ivette's neck. As long as Russell exerted a slight force, the Lord of Windrest Fortress would be without an heir.

"Wait here. I'll go get them now."

After thinking for a few seconds, the middle-aged man slowly said.

"Leave your sword behind. I'm interested in your sword!"

Although the middle-aged man's giant sword appeared rusty, Russell could be absolutely certain that this giant sword was extraordinary.

Leaving aside its massive size, the giant sword's durability was out of the ordinary. After colliding head-on with the Sword of Athena so many times, there wasn't a single dent on the giant sword; it only had some shallow marks.

The middle-aged man glared at Russell with a murderous look for a few seconds.

Then, he raised his giant sword and thrust it into the ground at an angle, suppressing his anger as he said, "Don't harm Miss Ivette!"

After speaking, the middle-aged man left the city wall, flying rapidly in the direction of the Lord's Mansion.

Once the middle-aged man had left, Russell tapped Ivette's shoulder with the Sword of Athena.

"Stop pretending. Get up!"

Although he had knocked Ivette unconscious earlier, for a Vanaheimr like her, it wouldn't take long to wake up.

Upon hearing Russell's words, Ivette didn't continue pretending and stood up, glaring at Russell with anger on her face.
