If you watched Goku transform into a Super Saiyan every time up until this episode, he was always enraged, which is not Goku's personality. To my knowledge, Goku's idea for training in the Chamber was to not only help Gohan achieve the form but also to gain full control of their powers, meaning them being their natural selves while transformed, as Vegeta stated.
