If Gohan was slightly stronger than Goku as a SS1 and got SS2 through an emotional outburst, others like Goku and Vegeta who were somewhat close in power could achieve it too with more training. 7 years is a LONG time in DB time.

Instead of just having Dabura turn him to stone. Would have been cool to see how Gohan would have reacted to an evil Piccolo. But what we got is still pretty bad ass.

Not to mention Vegeta training non stop for almost 7 years as well as Goku doing the same in the after life. Who knows how many other dead warriors/masters Goku could have trained with during that time. He definitely picked up a few new “tricks” from his experiences in the last few years. Gotta give it up to Vegeta for basically getting this far alone. While Goku had a far better training environment and other dead partners to train with.

The sound, visuals and music are out of this world, but the episode belongs to Chris Sabat as Vegeta. It makes sense that they would both be SSJ2 at this point, Goku's been training in other world, Vegeta for 7 years on Earth (and they were both already at an ascended level after their year's in the time chamber). They're the last survivors of planet Vegeta, full blooded Saiyan warriors, it's what they do.
