Project Horror - What The Future Holds

Hi Patrons. I hope you are all well and managing to stay safe. 

I just wanted to take a minute and explain the context of what I'm posting at the moment and how I see the project developing and growing. Please take the time to read it and feel free to message me or leave a comment below. 

Everything you have seen so far has been shot at auditions or screen tests. Casting for Project Horror is actually pretty tough - I can always find people who want to shoot, but are they any good? To help answer that, I get people in for an hour or so and shoot a little screen test. That way, I can see how good they are, get a good sense of how they might fit into future stories and shoots, as well as giving myself a chance to work on the practical FX, or camera work, etc. (BTW, I do pay them for their time to audition - it's unusual, but they get crazy messy and I do go on to use the content. Also, I don't want to be a cheap ass 😁)

So the films with Amber (Two Bullets for Bella), with Emily (Blood Ripper: Murder in the Red Barn) and Abi (Blood Ripper: The Ballad of Agent Cody) are all from auditions. Those are the first times that I've worked with these people and those are the first times they done a death scene. They are, of course, some auditions that don't go well. The point is - I never know which way it's going to go until the cameras start rolling. 

Because I'm limited to about an hour for these auditions, that's why there's not much in the way of scene-setting or building a context. It's also why they are all shot within the building at my studio (also because I live in a very wet and cold part of the world so shooting outside is very much a summer activity).

I hope that helps set the scene as to how most of what you get to see is shot. 

When I launched my Patreon, I was only really expecting a handful of people to like what I do. There's nearly 30 of you now!!!! If that number holds, I have a budget for around 20 hours of shooting every month. For example, that could break down as a 4 hour shoot with 2 actresses (could get a couple of stories shot in that time) and then a 4-hour shoot with 3 performers. 

That budget and the fact, I believe, I have a great team of performers means I can look to film more involved stories with actual narratives and context. It also means I can look to use more diverse locations that help support the story-telling. And, of course, more blood, guts, and gore, and more extreme kills and a wider range of weapons and practical fx.
