I can understand not wanting to lose what little family you have left, and then not knowing how to cope with suppressing that side of you and turning to alcohol. Still no excuse for beating his son, but I can understand it. LOVE THIS SHOW!

She's extremely smart, ambitious, she knows how to play the long game, and seems to be one of the only characters that actually judges or chooses people based on their personality/flaws regardless of their color. Each person she interacts with is shown their desires as well as how those desires are their downfall. She's the only character not ruled by emotion and seems to see the world clearly.

They’d deal with racism from white people and homophobia/transphobia from the Black community, so they could finally be themselves amongst themselves without judgement. Also, I think some of the patrons were drag queens and some were transgender.
