Return to Killingholme

Our August kicks off proper, with a quick trip back to Killingholme. If you've not watched the other two films in the Killingholme Trilogy, then check out The Curious Disappearance of Jennifer Devere and Finding Jennifer before watching Return to Killingholme.

If you like impalements, if you like lots of walking wounded, you need to watch this film. It also features my first go at a throat cut.

Katie absolutely nails it in her Project Horror debut as Davina Howard, an ambitious young reporter. Before she disappeared, private investigator Rachel Adams tipped off Davina there was a big story about to break in Killingholme. With Rachel vanished, Davina calls Jennifer's father to see if he can fill in any blanks.

He tells her that Jennifer was headed to Killingholme's warehouse district, so Davina decides to start her search there. She pokes around and takes some pictures, before she makes a shocking discovery - a jar full of intestines and Rachel's necklace. In a rush to get out the building, she stumbles as she puts her shoe back on then Bankside Ripper impales her. He leaves the machete in and walks off, curious to see what Davina will do - how she'll react.

Davina, although wounded, tries to escape. In tremendous pain, she has to frequently stop and gather herself to continue on. She nearly makes it out, but the warehouse is like a labyrinth and, woozy from blood loss, she gets turned around and ends up right back where she was attacked. The ripper reappears and claims back his machete, before delivering a fatal blow

Katie totally shines in her first PH film - I hope you agree. The throat slice came out good (I think) and the blood gushing through the fingers worked well. I should have kept topping up the throat wound at the end of the film. I'll make sure I do that the next time.

As always, let me know what you think in the comments or via DM.

Thanks, Dan

"The Stand Off" is great. A bit too bloody for my taste - as always, but everything else is just wonderful - acting, dialogs, composition and of course the outfit! Just great!

Yeah, thanks Luc. I’m kinda kicking myself I didn’t make more of the neck wound. Still, gives me an excuse to have another go 🤣

Katie delivers a convincing actress performance. I love the green turtleneck under the shirt (very 70's fashion). Her death is slow and we can see her despair and confusion before passing away. The only point for improvement in my opinion is the absence of visible throat injury. Excellent short movie.
