Mermaid Au

….. I love mermaids. I love this mermaid au so much, I am Considering making ocs for this plot line so I’m not tempted to permanently make Edwin and Portia’s story be mermaid au haha (I would not do that…. But…..)

Portia’s dad was a human and raised her in secret before giving her to her mom for the best aka she’s a fish. He obvi is very much around, and is still pretty much her primary caregiver until she’s an adult, so he sneaks away to visit his secret daughter. Edwin’s a miserable fisherman obsessed with mermaids (more so Portia due to the fact that she ‘almost killed him’ as a kid, when in reality she was saving him, he repays the favor by saving her but it comes across as trying to kill her, classic. So they’re enemies). Portia is trying to become a human so she can be with her father, since she’s very popular but feels like an outsider still. Edwin spends most of his time alone at sea, fishing and making music since he feels like an outsider in the village. Portia gets a reputation as a seawitch, humans trading money, items, etc for ‘magic’ when in reality it’s her giving advice or something, which gets her money plus time to study humans and try to figure it out. There is a way for someone to pass between both worlds, it requires a heartfelt deal and bond, she’s unaware of. It didn’t happen with her mom and dad cause her mom never really loved her dad. Portia also takes beer as a payment. Regardless, Edwin and Portia come to terms and make a deal to help each other, at least like she will help him fish, he will bring her stuff from town, only Edwin begins to change because he is obvi open hearted and in love, while Portia is pretty closed off……… she cuts things off, and Edwin gets his depression beard. Eventually he gets through to Portia that he doesn’t really care and wants her as is, and would bring her to live with him etc, and actually means it…. Then the pact is complete and both can move back and forth teehee, Portia on land and Edwin as a lil merman haha

I also like the idea of Portia wanting to find out about her future, like if she’s ever successful and is told her life would end with a lighthouse, so she’s veryyyyyy nervous about the lighthouse. Portia eventually finds out Edwin has a lighthouse tattoo on his back, p big, and that causes more tension until she decides to live her life, and it turns out her life would end with the light house cause they spend the rest of their days together yippee!!!

In my mind this au is just Edwin’s daydream
