In-Laws

had a request for portia and edwin dealing with their surprise pregnancy! wanted to get into the in-laws and how the community helps each other.

Edwin and Portia move back in with Ume and Emir per their demands so they dont have to pay rent on top fixing up their new house + cidery and so they can help take care of Portia while she's pregnant. Obvi Charlie (portia dad) and Russel (step dad) are VERY involved, but they dont have much space (this causes them much pain and eventually leads them to move basically next door/in with edwin and portia), but the matsumoto-underhills have the space and the time. They're very doting but a bit cringe and overbearing. I don't draw edwin's dad (emir) much, just cause I imagine he's away a lot, but he's excessively chill and very nice. Def a cheek kisser, crunchy, john denver hippie meets japanese business man engineer... he would prefer to be less business man and more free. Ume really steps into being portia's mother in law, helping it be a bit less painful. Portia I think harbors a lot of fear and worry about being a mom due to not really having a mom, and when her mom decided to be around she was a mess, and prob wishes she had a mom who was stable and could help her.... except she has one with ume! Portia begins her story with having 1 parent she had to become the caretaker for, to 4 parents who dote on her. Edwin is obvi babied too.

I'll do portia's dad's next. Charlie is well by now, and is really trying to be more involved in portia's life. I think it's that sad reality of because he's better, portia feels he doesn't need her help so much/becomes really really busy, so suddenly charlie sees less and less of his daughter and shes SOOOOO independant, plus if she has an issue, she will call her now husband, not him... it breaks his heart. Russel kinda keeps charlie together overall, but also is sad his portia isn't around as much. Portia discusses with edwin how her dads are trying to find somewhere closer to stay, and I think Edwin is the one that suggests they move in the guest house/the other fixer upper on their cidery/next to it. Edwin probably admits he had that in mind from the start, it's why he wanted to get the house so her parents could be closer. Portia is THRILLED. obvi the dads are thrilled. theyre a bit away, not exactly next door, plus both work at the cidery now
