Getting kinda deep.

Play out is Portia used to get heavily bullied growing up similarly to Edwin, but she’s more socially charming and fought back more successfully. Plus she ‘grew up’ too fast, guys who bullied her suddenly were interested, its a small town, she went from no one wanting her to being the queen bee in highschool, if you liked her you loved her, if you didn’t like her, you hated her, and she had no issue with it. Over Confident teenage girl vs careless bf, Portia broke up with him, went to prom with Edwin where she gave him his first kiss ‘for fun’ but it quickly intensified until she excused herself to go him with the promise to see him tomorrow. Both were ecstatic, only at school Portia’s ex had seen what happened and challenged Edwin, who panicked believing Portia wouldn’t want people to know about it, and in a poor attempt to save her social image effectively ruined it. Portia said some very mean things to purposefully hurt his feelings when she found out since she had been so happy and then sees Edwin speaking about her like a lot of other guys do, their romance died, they did not speak for a time, Portia found out she was pregnant. Crash out, didn’t want to tell her dad, missed the bus and was crying when Edwin drove by and offered her a ride where she blurted out what was happening, he took her to the clinic and was very good support, then they returned to pretending nothing happened. Girl at school found out after seeing Portia there and assumed, spread the news to ruin her reputation, Edwin avoided Portia fearing she would blame him/his combative attitude and trying to dissuade it (he’s a horrible liar) made rumors spread it was his to which eventually people were like this isnt adding up, Edwin’s an untouchable and Portia is very popular, clearly this whole thing must be fake. It blew over, but people are p divided. It’s a small town, gossip is gossip, people have opinions. Portia’s dad asked her and she told him the truth and he was v supportive, made sure to be around for her more. eventually after some time of avoiding one another, Edwin and Portia picked up their enemy routine. They essentially had a 6 month gap of not speaking/being civil when they saw each other because neither wanted to push the other. Worst times of their lives yipeee

Portia’s bullying predominantly came from her size, fat phobia, appearance, people hating her ‘unlady like’ behavior such as rough housing, confidence, loudness, etc. but eventually her behavior became synonymous with her and was more acceptable since she was tactful. Edwin’s bullying came from his appearance, racism, but mostly for his ‘weirdness’, he’s very much on the spectrum, and for him he feels out of place/is made to feel that way regardless becayse he’s blunt, tactless, corrective, ‘unfeeling’ but also over emotional, so he was labeled weird, and has since stayed there compared to Portia who socially was one of the weirdo’s he could hang out with as a kid, now she’s very popular and he’s not. He harbors a lot of jealousy for her but also resentment since she has been one of the few e people to really see him/treat him normally (obvi she bullies him but for things that he can control), and now she’s hardly around. Portia resents him for his success and his family, and him being the person who will actually be honest/real with her about everything, eventually once they date they both get what they want the most!
