A handful of the tracks were released last year on a Part 1/EP (called "tori" - lowercase). She went with TORI. (all caps with a period) as a statement that this is her self-titled album and she knows exactly who she is. Just so I'm not spamming your comments, here are some tidbits in response to your video: π 1. You're spot on about "cut." Timbaland and Darkchild (Rodney Jerkins) both contributed. It was a single last year and there's a video. AJ Rafael is somewhere in it as an extra since he and Tori are still close friends. ππΌ 2. On "spruce," Tori and Kim's voices were produced so similarly that they sound a lot alike, but Kim did the full second verse! I wasn't familiar with her either, but she's part of K-Pop girl group Le Sserafim. They performed at Coachella this year. 3. On "shelter," the guitar Tori's singing along with at the end is played by Mateus Asato, an incredible guitarist she's taken with her on tour a number of times. They even did riffs back and forth with guitar (both of them) and her vocals live. It's so good! It was on that tour that I learned Tori's first instrument was drums! 4. "high water" was written after her health scare/collapse (i.e. blood clots) last summer. As for the Britney Spears vibes, Tori can actually mimic Britney's voice super well. She performed on The Masked Singer and did a Britney cover. π€£ 5. The "ain't nobody love like you do" in the r&b edit of "missin u" is a nod to her single "Nobody Love" from her debut album. So smooth! 6. "same girl" is a spiritual sequel to "Unbreakable Smile," also from her debut album. 7. "missin u" had a huge boost because it was the first single last summer. I'm SO glad you had a great time with this album and I'm looking forward to it dropping on YouTube so more people can hear this gem of an album!
