A commission for last_of_workers
Cayne was walking around looking for the other captains in order to make sure they were safe; however, she couldn't seem to find any, so she assumed either they made their way inside Zeta-13, or perhaps something worse happened to them, but Cayne was hopeful they were alive.
So she kept walking around, hoping to find them or an entrance inside the facility. Eventually she made it to the large stone wall and followed it until she came across a large fenced-in area that was being protected by a large energy shield.
Inside the fenced-off area, there seemed to be several things used for working out or playing games outside. There was also a large metal door that seemed to lead inside. Cayne was unsure what this part of the facility was, but an entrance was an entrance, so she was going to use it.
Cayne walked up to the energy shield and touched it, and surprisingly she could pass through it, so she did. Once she was on the other side, she stopped and pressed her hand against it again and found she couldn’t pass through again.
It was a one-way shield, and for some reason it was keeping things in. Cayne wasn’t sure what to make of it but continued to the fence. It was a pretty well-built fence, again looking more like it was to keep things in.
Cayne was able to simply walk through it like she had done the rock earlier, breaking it to pieces. That caused some sirens to go off, and several robot guards came running out of the big metal doors and over to her.
They all started yelling at her to put her hands up. Cayne did so, and as soon as her hands were up, all the robot guards activated their tractor beams and held her in place, which she found quite amusing.
She could get out of it, but she decided to play around and see where this goes. Once they thought they had her, another came over and put energy handcuffs around her wrists. They then told her that she’ll be punished for breaking prison property.
They then dragged her inside, all while she wondered why a place like this had a prison. She had a few ideas, one being that they kept prisoners there to experiment on, or perhaps because this place was so big, it likely had problems with people doing bad things from time to time.
Cayne was brought inside, which she discovered was just a normal prison. Two walls filled with cells and rows of tables where food and water are dispensed for prisoners to eat, and of course, tons of security guards, which Cayne found quite strange.
Cayne was tossed into a cell and then watched as they locked it. Not long after doing that, the big metal door to the outside was closed, and the sirens stopped. After that, one of the guards came over to Cayne’s cell.
It was told that for breaking prison property, her sentence was increased by five hundred years. Cayne looked shocked and asked if it was crazy. It, of course, didn’t respond. Cayne sighed as she calmed down; it didn’t matter all that much—she’d just break out.
However, before she did that and made all the security robots angry, she wanted to see if she could get some info from it, so she started asking questions about this place and what was going on. The robot didn’t seem to know anything about Zeta-13 as a whole but did know a lot about the prison.
It turns out that the prison was currently in emergency mode. As for why, it wasn’t sure. So Cayne could only guess that it activated when Zeta-13 was abandoned or sometime after automatically, and because it was active, so were all the security measures.
Like the security robots. Normally, prisons avoid robots and have everything done manually by real people, as prisoners tend to get their hands on things they shouldn't and can more easily hack robots, but when there are no people, they have these robots just in case.
Cayne was also able to learn from the guard that the door to leave this part of the prison was a five-meter-thick hermetic door, and on the other side was an extremely long tunnel filled with traps in case a prisoner somehow got inside.
Things like tractor beams to hold them in place, shock devices, energy walls that pop up all around the person and shrink until they’re trapped in a small box, and if they get to the very end, pure firepower.
Beyond that was the rest of the prison, the parts meant for security only. So there were places like their living quarters, their massive arsenal, solitary confinement cells, and what the robot guard called testing cells.
Cayne smiled hearing that; it was all very helpful information. So she only had to break free of these energy cuffs, break down her cell door, beat up the security bots, break through a big door, and run down a trap-filled tunnel, all nearly impossible for a normal person.
Luckily, thanks to her new body, she should have no problem doing any of that. Cayne pulled her wrists apart, breaking her cuffs, which made the robot guard yell at her and tell her that once again for breaking prison property, her sentence was increased by five hundred years.
Cayne just shook her head, then grabbed the bars to her cell door. She started to pull, and the hinges broke. Cayne then took the door and tossed it on top of the robot guard she had been talking to, trapping it in place.
The rest of the robot guards noticed and started yelling while running over to her. The sirens went off again, and Cayne could hear the extra security measures activating. The first robot guard got to her and used its tractor beam on her.
Cayne laughed and said that wouldn’t stop her, and using her power, she was able to run out of the tractor beam and smash the robot on the head, breaking it. The rest got to her and started shooting at her.
Cayne blocked most of the blasts with her arms, which didn’t hurt as much as she’d have thought; they were clearly set to stun, but they weren’t very powerful, almost like they were set too low, or perhaps her new body was just able to handle it well.
Cayne continued to fight off the robot guards using her new abilities, and eventually she managed to take out all but one, which she dragged over to the thick doors that lead to that tunnel. Cayne had no idea if she was strong enough to break the door, but using the robot was easier.
She pressed it’s head against the scanner and watched as the sirens turned off and the thick metal door opened. Cayne then tossed the robot guard away and started to walk down the tunnel, and as expected, she triggered a trap.
As expected, it was a simple tractor beam, which couldn’t hope to stop Cayne. Sure, it was enough for a normal person, but it wasn’t even enough to make her use all that much of her new power. She was easily able to get free and continue.
Cayne was expecting the rest of the traps and stuff that the robot guard had mentioned to be a piece of cake to get by, but of course things had been too easy for her up until now, and the anomalies had to pop up and be a pain in her ass.
Suddenly one appeared and created a large flash that blinded Cayne for a moment. Before she was even able to see again, she heard all kinds of strange noises. She opened her eyes to find that all the traps had changed and were much deadlier than they were supposed to be.
There were now saw blades popping out randomly and spinning incredibly fast, large axes swinging back and forth, flamethrowers that were randomly activating and burning a section of the floor, and even a part where the floor randomly gets pulled away to drop you into a hole with spikes.
Cayne gulped; this was suddenly much more dangerous than she was prepared for, not to mention not nearly as in her favor as the normal traps would have been, but it didn’t matter; she had to get past it.
Cayne started running, and out came the first set of saw blades. She stuck her hands out towards them to block them from hitting her more vital parts, and while it worked, it caused sparks to fly all over her, some of which left small burns.
She then got to the first part of the floor that randomly fell away. She waited for it to come back and quickly jumped over the gap before it and landed on it before quickly jumping again to a safe spot. She then looked in front of her. Next up was the fire.
It seemed to activate every five seconds for ten seconds, so she just had to count and then jump. She did so, sweating a bit from the heat, and the second it stopped, she jumped and rolled over the spot before the fire came back.
She got herself up just in time to avoid being hit by a swinging axe, though it did cut a few hairs from her head, and with how short her hair was, that was way closer than she preferred. Cayne then made it to another gap with a moving platform.
She watched it to learn the timing and jumped when it was time; however, this one was a double trap, as she was in the air, a tractor beam activated and caught her. She was more than capable of getting out of it, but it stopped her long enough for the platform below to get pulled again.
Cayne figured she’d just wait until it came back before getting herself free, but the tractor beam suddenly turned off again, and she started to fall towards the hole. Luckily the platform was coming back just in time.
Cayne took her hand and punched through the platform that kept her from falling all the way down. She then dangled there for a moment as the platform moved back and forth; once she calmed herself, she swung back and forth and got herself back up on the safe floor.
She then took a deep breath before continuing down the last stretch. Another swinging axe, some blades, and fire, and she was at the last trap, which she wasn’t sure what it was, but it was about to show her.
Suddenly a massive block of metal fell from the ceiling and pinned Cayne on the floor. It was super heavy, but luckily it wasn't enough to crush her, just pin her down, but that was a problem; she couldn’t move an inch.
She tried several times but was unable to lift it up. Cayne was worried she was going to be trapped here like this, but she wasn't going to give up. She closed her eyes and asked the Vanguard to lend her all its strength.
Cayne suddenly felt a warm feeling throughout her body, with it being more intense at her arms and legs. Cayne's body suddenly went into overdrive mode, and her power was increased to two hundred percent.
She suddenly felt the block of metal moving. Cayne laughed and thanked the Vanguard, and then, using all of her new strength, she started pushing. She managed to not only lift it up and above her head, but with one really strong punch, she sent the metal block flying up into the room above.
Cayne smiled and looked towards the last five-meter-thick door. She grabbed one end of it and pulled it open with ease. Cayne walked through it, celebrating that she had escaped from prison and being in awe about how awesome overdrive mode was.
Though she celebrated a bit too soon. Suddenly overdrive mode deactivated, and she had no energy. She immediately passed out and fell on the floor in front of her. So for now she needed to nap and recharge, and once she did, she could continue looking for the others.
