D&D Adventures: The Warrior II (Ea)

After guarding the front gate for a bit, Grainne started going around the mansion, inside and out, and learning the layout. “This place is so huge, I can’t believe I’m the only one guarding it. That’s almost like asking for something to go wrong.” Grainne said a bit worried.

“Knowing how these games go, something is bound to happen. I should probably go check on the governor.” Grainne turned around and walked towards the front of the mansion. She was about to go inside when she heard someone yelling.

“Hey Grainne!!! Over here?” a woman yelled. Grainne turns her head and sees a woman at the front gate. “Hey, come let me in!!!” She said, talking as though the two knew each other. “This… seems suspicious… but this is part of my job… I guess I should get rid of her.”

Grainne walked down the stairs and opened the gate. “Thanks, I’ll just head right in,” the woman said as she tried to pass by Grainne. “Ha, not so fast.” Grainne grabbed the red haired woman and pushed her back out. “What the heck, man? I need to get in there?” she said, annoyed.

“I’m not letting you in there.” Grainne said as she prepared to use force. “Why not?” the woman said, annoyed. “Well, for starters, I have no idea who you are.” Grainne said as she continued to keep the strange woman out.

“You don’t?” the woman said, confused, but her expression quickly changes as she pulls something out of her pouch. “I’m a professional dancer, and the governor hired me for the night. These papers will prove I’m telling the truth.”

She said as she placed the papers in Grainne’s hands. “We’ll see.” Grainne replied clearly skeptical. “Let’s see, this is a photo identification. Her name is Marla; she’s twenty, lives in town, and according to this permit, she does in fact work as a dancer and is fully permitted to dance anywhere.”

Grainne thought to herself. “Seems to check out… You said the governor hired you?” Grainne asked, seeing if she could catch Marla slipping. “That’s right. I’m here to help her have a fun night.” Marla said as she did a bit of dancing to show off her skills.

Grainne shook her head. “Fine, I’ll take you to her, but try anything funny and that head will roll.” Marla winked at Grainne as she walked inside. “Wouldn’t plan on it darling.” Grainne sighed and closed the gate, and the two went inside the mansion.

They found the governor in the living room entranced by the book in her hands. Grainne cleared her throat, then spoke to Alista. “Boss, this fine young woman has come to entertain you for the night… apparently by your request.”

Alista looked up confused, then looked back and forth at Grainne and Marla. “Is this normal? She seems quite strange, but she is a noble, so she probably thinks we’re all dumb and beneath her.” Grainne thought to herself.

“Really? That’s cool! She’s quite beautiful.” Alista said as she stared at Marla. “Thanks, darling, I do try to look my best, especially for special clients like you.” Marla said as she winked and used her most flirtatious tone.

Marla then looks at Grainne. “Well, thanks for leading me inside. I’ll take care of her from here. We’ll be heading up to the bedroom now.” Marla said as she took Alista’s hand. “Oh? That sounds amazing. Guard, we are not to be bothered, alright?” Alista said as they made it to the stairs.

“Sure thing… boss.” Grainne said as she went back outside. She patrols around the mansion a few more times before finding herself getting thirsty. That’s when she heads back inside and to the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water.

As she sipped from her glass, she noticed a mirror and got another look at herself. She flexed and smiled. “This is so cool; I’d love to get to do more than just protect some noble. When is the fun stuff going to start?”

As if on cue, an alarm started going off. “What the heck is that? It’s coming from the basement?” Grainne put down her cup and ran towards the basement stairs. “The door is open? I know I closed this after I was in here earlier. Someone has to be in here.”

Grainne said as she drew her sword. She got to the bottom of the stairs just in time to see a small raccoon woman running out of the vault, just in time to not get locked inside it. “Someone really is down here, and from the looks of it, she’s definitely robbing the place.”

“That was too close. I would have been done for if I got trapped. Though, I’m not really in the clear yet…” the thief said clearly, thinking she was alone. “You can say that again, rat.” Grainne said in her most stern tone.

The thief gulped and looked up at her. Grainne then pointed her greatsword at the raccoon thief. “Put your hands up now.” The thief frowned and put her hands up. “Uh… I think there’s been a misunderstanding… I work here…” The thief said, clearly lying.

“Yeah, right. You’re clearly a thief; I mean, you’re literally in all black, and I watched you come out of the vault. Only an idiot would believe you. Now, unless you want to lose those arms, you’ll keep them up.” Grainne said as she moved closer to the thief.

“Is this really what I’m supposed to be doing? This seems too easy? Perhaps she’s not really giving up and trying to come up with a plan. That could be fun; do it rat. Let’s see who wins in a fight, the tiny rodent or the mighty warrior.” Grainne thought to herself.

Suddenly the thief took a step back and quickly lowered her arms and pulled out a set of daggers. “I warned you, rat.” Grainne yelled as she swung her sword, but she quickly realized a problem: the basement was small, and she didn’t have much room to use such a big sword.

The thief had realized that and used it to her advantage. She stabbed Grainne’s arm. Grainne started yelling and dropped her sword in order to cover her wound with her other hand. As that happened, the thief crawled between her legs in an attempt to escape.

Grainne was furious about being stabbed, which caused her adrenaline to spike and the pain to stop, meaning she could get back to the fight. She turned around and grabbed the thief's tail, then using all the strength she could muster, she threw the thief into the stone wall.

The thief hit the wall face first and then slid down until her feet touched the floor and she fell backwards onto it. The thief was clearly out for the count; she wasn't moving and looked to be dazed. Grainne started to approach her in order to tie her up.

“Huh… escape???” the thief mumbled. Grainne made it to the thief and looked down at her annoyed. “Stay down; if you get up, I’ll see if I’m strong enough to rip you in half.” The thief nodded. “Yeah… I’ll… Stay down… I surrender… just don’t… kill me…”

She said before her head fell to the side and she passed out. Grainne was surprised. “I must have thrown her harder than I thought… Hopefully she doesn’t actually die….” Grainne says, a bit worried. Then suddenly she starts hearing that voice again.

“Grainne has failed her quest. A new quest has started: your goal is to clear your name.” The voice said before going completely silent again. “What… What do you mean I failed my quest? I caught the thief… Unless… oh no, the governor…” Grainne said panicked.

She then ran up the stairs to the main floor, then up the stairs to the second floor, and then finally to the governor's bedroom. She kicked the door open and found the governor laying on her bed with a dagger through the chest, her body now completely lifeless.

“Oh no…” Grainne ran over and tried to do something to help, but it was too late. The dagger was through her heart, and she had lost a lot of blood. If a powerful mage were here, perhaps they could do something, but Grainne was a warrior, not a mage.

“I... I need to get help.” Grainne said as she turned and ran towards the stairs again. When she got there, she was surprised to see a small squad of city guards coming inside the mansion. They looked right at Grainne and looked panicked.

“That’s her, right? The one the red haired dancer said attacked her and killed the governor?” One guard said as he drew his sword. The rest agreed with him, and all drew their weapons. Grainne gulped and took a step back. “Wait, there’s been a misunderstanding.”

The guard started to get closer to her. “Oh, I’m sure… how about you come quietly, and we’ll figure it all out at the station?” Grainne had the feeling he was lying; at the very least, she didn’t trust him enough to go with him.

So she turned around and ran back towards the bedroom, with the guards chasing after her. Once inside the bedroom, she slammed the door and blocked it with a dresser. “Alright, I need to get out of here… and there’s only one day to do that.”

Grainne looked at the window and gulped, but when the guards started pounding on the door, she started running. She covered her face and shattered the window as she jumped through it. She then fell a bit to the ground, where she then rolled.

Once she made it to her feet again, she started running. “I just need to get away and lie low for some time. Once the authorities stop looking for me, I’ll find that dancer and make her confess to being the real killer.”

Comments

I like this episode and especially the part where Grainne's wish is suddenly forgotten and the "tiny rodent" tries to resist. And also... I know it's a stupid thought but it won't leave my head... We'll soon see an action movie Who Framed Grainne warrior (reference to Who Framed Roger Rabbit)... It's a VERY stupid thought but it won't leave my head.
