The Mirror World: Skylar Barrera I (Ea)

(The characters in this story are adults. This is not a nsfw story; it's not sexual; it's simply an emotional story, so patreon leave it the fuck up.)

“Some say mirrors are just windows to other realities, and that’s why we see the world from a different perspective in them. Those people truly have no idea how close they are to the truth; mirrors aren’t just windows, but they’re doorways to alternate realities.”

“Every reality vibrates at a different frequency, but sometimes those frequencies can shift slightly, causing two different realities to come closer together. That doesn’t cause any harm to either reality, but it does cause a phenomenon called Mirror Shifting to become possible.”

“When Mirror Shifting occurs, some mirrors scattered through the worlds become portals, and when touched, they can suck the person inside them, sending them to an alternate reality, where almost nothing could be different, or everything could be different.”

“Now, while realities often get close enough to allow Mirror Shifting to happen, you have better odds of being struck by lightning thirteen times in a row and surviving. So there are almost no records or accurate data on the subject. Still, just because the odds are low doesn’t mean it can’t happen.”

Skyler opened the door to his house and stepped inside, soaked from head to toe. It was late in the afternoon and his classes had let out two hours ago. That was completely normal; what wasn’t, however, was the intense thunderstorm happening outside.

It was raining so hard Skyler could barely see, and on top of that, there was a ton of lightning, which sounded like it was striking things next to him as he walked home. Now, he wasn’t an idiot; he wouldn’t have walked home if he had a choice.

He tried to call his father to come give him a ride, but like usual, his father’s phone wasn’t even on. So Skyler had to walk in the rain, risking getting sick or worse, being struck by lightning, which honestly both sounded better than going home; at least if he did die, he could see his mom again.

Skyler stepped through the hallway and looked into the living room; there on the recliner was her father, who was passed out with several beer bottles around him. “You’re a better drunk than a father… that’s for sure.” Skyler said as he walked into the kitchen.

He walked over to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water, then he grabbed a frozen dinner from the freezer and tossed it in the microwave. While it cooked, he pulled his phone out of his pocket and wiped the water off of it so he could use it.

After three minutes the microwave beeped, letting Skyler know his food was done. So he opened it up and pulled his meal out. As he turned around to take it to the table, Skyler saw his father standing in the doorway, midway into throwing a bottle.

Skyler dropped his food and ducked and covered his face. The sound of glass could be heard as the bottle shattered against the microwave. Skyler felt glass shards falling all over him. Once it stopped, Skyler stood up and looked at his father.

“What the hell?” Skyler yelled. “What the... hick... hell you saying? Well... hick... what the hell is with you soaking my floors?” his father said, slurring half the words he spoke. “It was raining, and you didn’t answer your phone, so I had to walk…”

Skyler was cut off by his father stumbling backward. “I don’t care… hick… Just clean this… hick… shit up.” His father said before stumbling back into the living room and passing out on the floor. Skyler sighed and looked down at his food.

“Not eating that… and I’m not going to risk waking him up with the microwave again.” Skyler said as he reached into the cabinet and grabbed a bowl, then a box of cereal. He then walked to the fridge and grabbed the milk, taking everything up to his room.

He tossed everything on his desk, then went to shower to not only get out of his wet clothes but also to get the glass shards off of him. Once he was cleaned and changed, he sat on his bed and made himself a bowl of cereal to eat.

He then sat there eating his food and listening to the thunder and rain. After some time, one of the lightning strikes was close enough to cause his room to shake, which caused everything in his room to move a bit, including his mirror.

He didn’t think much of it, not until he looked at his mirror and saw a girl in it. “What the hell?” Skyler said as he jumped to his feet and put his bowl down. He then quickly walked over to the mirror and looked in it and sure enough, there was actually a girl moving inside the mirror.

“Am I seeing things?” Skyler said worriedly. “How can a mirror show something not in my room… and as far as I can tell, I’m not a girl… though that girl does look a lot like me… Same height, hair and eye color… and strangely, she looks just like my mom…”

Without thinking about it, Skyler reached his hand up and touched the mirror. As soon as he made contact with it, he felt himself being pulled through the mirror. He was pulled from his reality and tossed into the alternate one he was looking into.

He flew into something, then they fell down onto the floor; somehow Skyler landed on her butt. “Ouch… what was that?” Skyler said as she opened her eyes and looked up at her mirror, which was now strangely on the other side of her room.

Skyler was confused about that but more confused about how she was looking into her mirror, which showed her room, but somehow neither she nor that girl from the mirror was anywhere to be seen. “She’s gone?” Skylar said as she rubbed her finger on his temple, confused.

“Uh… I wouldn’t say I’m gone…” said a female voice. Skyler looked around looking for who had said that, but there was no one around. “Who… who said that?” Skyler said as she continued to look around.

“Uh… I did…” The girl said again, sounding clear as day, but somehow not being anywhere Skyler could see her. “Okay… so where are you?” Skyler asked. “Well, that’s the confusing part… I feel like I’m inside my body… but for some reason I can’t control it,” the girl said, sounding a bit worried.

“You can’t control your body? That’s strange… what happened?” Skyler asked, genuinely concerned. “Well, I had noticed the reflection in my mirror was different, so I got up to look at it; that’s when you appeared,” the girl said before pausing.

After a few seconds she continued, “Then you walked over and touched the mirror. That’s when you suddenly came flying through it and crashed into me. After that my body started moving on its own, and now I feel like I’m talking to you through my thoughts.”

“I crashed into you… and now you can’t control your body… but you can speak to me… How is that possible?” Skyler said as she continued to scratch her temple. “I suppose we better figure it out before my father wakes up and starts trouble.”

“Your father? We’re in my house… and I guess my reality… I don't think he's here," the girl said. Skyler realized she was right. She was the one sucked through the mirror, not the girl. Skyler took a quick glance around and realized she was in a flipped version of her room, one that was much girlier.

“Wait… so you live in a mirrored version of my room… and you look similar to me and just like my mother… who… who are you?” Skyler said even though she already knew the answer. “Oh, right, I should introduce myself. My name is Skylar Barrera.” Skylar said in a pleasant tone.

Skyler gulped and let out an awkward laugh. “Nice to meet you Skylar… My name is Skyler, Skyler Barrera…” The two of them got silent for a moment as they realized that they were different versions of the same person.

“So… we’re the same person… Does that mean when you came through the mirror into my world, we merged? It would explain why I can’t move my body at the moment.” Skylar said, sounding puzzled. “I guess… sorry about that… must be weird to suddenly be a guy…” Skyler said, feeling slightly bad.

“A guy? Are you sure? I still have access to my senses, so I can still feel everything… and well, it sure feels like my breasts are weighing down our chest.” Skylar said as she chuckled a bit. Skyler raised an eyebrow and looked down.

Sure enough, Skylar was right; they were both in her body and Skyler was the one steering it at the moment. Skyler’s whole face turned bright red. “I’m… I’m a girl…” Skyler muttered. “Oh come on now, boys are always so weird about these things.” Skyler said, sounding super annoyed.

Skyler picked herself up and walked over to the mirror, which had at some point stopped showing his empty bedroom and started working as a normal mirror again. So Skyler could get a good look at the body she somehow ended up in.

“I… I can’t believe this… I really am a girl now… Not only that… but I’m trapped in another reality with a female version of myself trapped in my head… What the heck am I going to do about this? What can I do?” Skyler said as she held her head and panicked.

“Hey, calm down; you don’t see me freaking out about not being able to control my body. Everything will be alright; just take a deep breath and we’ll figure this out… also my mother is asleep, as she has to wake up early in the morning for work.” Skylar said before making a shushing noise.

Skyler suddenly stopped panicking. “Your mother? Is her name Lyla and does she happen to look just like you?” Skylar got quiet for a moment. “Yeah? Wait, so our mothers are the same in both our realities? Is it just us that’s different?”

Tears started to run down Skyler’s face. “Skyler? Are you alright?” Skylar asked, worried about her. Skyler didn’t answer; instead, she quickly turned around and ran out of the room and towards the room she knew in her reality as her father’s room.

Yeah patreon has been a real pain lately. Their flagging system is broken and the real people in charge of responding are worse at reading than a two-year-old. I currently have a story removed from here that contains no sexual content, no nudity; it's nothing but a normal school theme and it was removed. It was up for seven months, but when I made it public, it was flagged. I tried for over two months to get it back up but no, none of them will even read it or look at the proof I provided proving they are mistaken. Sorry for the rant; let's talk about the story!! C: There are many questions to be answered, and as our characters aren't scientists, nor are they the strange person at the beginning who seems to know a lot about this situation, answers may never come, not unless or until we get to the part that features our beginning narrator. Overall, I just wanted to make a more emotional series that covers slightly harder issues, complex emoitons and closure that the characters need. I hope it'll be a nice change of pace.

The message at the beginning of this is a real cry from the soul of a person who no longer hopes for anything. Yes, I sympathize with you sometimes automatic algorithms are truly merciless! I liked this story, especially how you described the principles of this effect. It was really very impressive! And I am also very interested in how exactly these two universes differ, why they had such differences and most importantly why after Skyler passed through the mirror, their bodies united and united in this way. Why did the body remain Skyler from this world and the mind of Skyler from another and therefore the mind of Skyler from this world remained inside and can not do anything but communicate with itself and observe. And also why Skyler did not approach the girl to the mirror if they are both almost identical .. in general, I will wait for the second part with impatience!
