Back in those days because there were so few 'out' gays, if you found another it was like ending the drought for a day. You'd basically do anything to be with them (and visa-versa). The other issue was that you also knew that it could not last for fear of being found out and jailed. One of the reasons why gays were so promisquious - you never knew when your next shag would be.
