Half the reason traditional fighting games die quickly is because the online functionality sucks for 90% of them. If they had good netcode they'd have a lot more consistent players. Another thing is I don't think a single one of them has good interactivity between players online. Sitting down on the couch and playing a fighting game with friends is great, you can trash talk each other, teach each other to play better, etc, but there's essentially none of that if you go fight random people online in any fighting game today.

I like Andrew but he has no idea what he's talking about with Smash tournaments. Anyone going to a Smash tournament will already have all the characters unlocked if they play at that level and if you bring a setup to be used by other players during the tournament, TO's check to make sure all characters are unlocked, if not then they don't use your set up.
