Bonus #26 - Word Wars

Look out campers, it's time for another bonus episode. We're gonna keep this one chock-full of simple, clean fun, including us talking about Turkish names, Apex Legends, cheating at video games, and how hard it is to fight when you're 90 years old. Dig it.

I'm a big fan of the podcast. And I've listened to every episode and bonus (and twice for some). I've turned a bunch of people onto the podcast and I love supporting y'all on patreon. But this episode is the only one I genuinely can't listen to. I don't know why Kaya pretentiously tried to undermine Andrew for no reason for 10 minutes (the "would you cheat at a video game" convo). And the thing is I assume Kaya is familiar with sophism, so I don't know why he would use that rhetoric. It's just a podcast and this comment takes 2 minutes to write so it's not like it ruins the series for me, but Kaya sounds like a genuinely mean person here.

It's common af to have a name based on an actual word among Europeans, my last name means mountainbreak if translated directly to English, last names like Oak are common as well. The reason for it stems from most of us being feudal peasants for a long time so lastnames were taken from attributes like being a farmer living near a large oak tree or having an ancestor bulldoze a mountain for more farming space. Some are even named through Germanic language similar to Smith among the anglosphere. I think the deal with you boys is that you are in the Anglosphere and England was subjugated by foreign powers for a long time like the Norman, Saxon and Norwegian invasions. Due to this English became sort of an amalgamation of languages that to this day people find hard to study. All names originate from words that are used to describe things but they just have changed to differ from the original connotation. For example Charlie stems from Charles which was popularized by the success of Charles the Great. Charles meaning free man in German. In time the original word lost its meaning to time but the name remains. Do you guys really believe that your names were just pulled from the aether? They all meant something.

Necro this post for future patreons. Saw a guy on my college grad. list named Annal Reddy.

there was a daniel buttkiss on beavis and butthead wasn't there

Rescue C Hopper has a name to live up to. I don't think I should live up to mine.

I knew a kid named Eric Shen (erection)

Was this the episode y’all talked about MMA being boring and you wanna see regular people fight? Check out rough n rowdy videos. Bill Bur as an announcer for fights between mainly rednecks.

Dark Nut

I’d like to think anyone would be upset by losing something they care very much about, almost like if one were to be prohibited from all contact with any and all animals until they died and could only watch videos to sate themselves

I’m so happy I spent the last $15.00 in my account on supporting the boys. I’d gladly sacrifice a fast food meal a month for this.

I felt warm fuzzlies in my heart when you guys mentioned native American names lol, I'm roughly like, 78% native American and my native name given to me at birth is "Son of the Waves", and my spirit guide is a sea turtle, but my normal boring name is Dylan lol

you guys do realise that western names like Andrew also originate from words right? Like they got slightly distorted because it's thousands of years old, but it comes from the greek word "andros" meaning "man", "manly". Same with the rest of names.

Same

I was going to sleep, but it looks like I need to listen to this now.
