They're known for fighting in Vietnam and for civil rights. Gen X are their children and they're generally more conservative. Millennials were children when the millennium rolled around. Andrew the fad of calling everyone a boomers comes from boomers lack of understanding of technology. Anyone who looks like an idiot on the internet is therefore a "Boomer".
