Understandably health care workers need it too, but that doesn't mean that it should only be exclusive to them. As you stated we all know that the masks work, and the procedures you laid out are pretty common knowledge, yes a few people will not get them right but it shouldn't limit what I am willing to do for my own safety. You say "masks are pretty fucking pointless to the layman" which means to me "safety for me but not for you", because you think your life is so much more important. I'm not saying that health care workers don't need masks. Of course they do, I wear one every time i'm in the ER for my own safety and for the safety of patients. But I would absolutely never want to deprive a person outside the healthcare setting of their ability to take safety into their own hands. I think that would be evil. All the other point you made I agree with.

This episode was particularly frustrating to listen to. I guess I can't really blame you for not knowing, as there's been a constant onslaught of misinformation, but at least try and do proper research before spreading further misinformation. Yes, a mask would technically prevent any microbes from entering your mouth, but what about the rest of your person? The average joe is going to touch the door to his apartment building, touch the railing as he goes up the stairs and into his apartment. Then, if he's sensible, he'll go wash his dumbfuck hands BEFORE removing his mask, which he should then decontaminate immediately before washing his hands a second time. Even with those precautions, he could still have the virus somewhere on his clothes, perhaps already in his system, entered through the eyes unless he was wearing goggles as well. So yeah, masks are pretty fucking pointless to the layman, but a trained, medical professional has protocols and procedures for removing their gear, which includes gloves, mask, goggles, hair bags and an apron-type of deal. Not only do these people have the know-how to minimize the risk of infection, they're also the people who spend their entire workday around the infected. These people need the masks the most and make better use of them, and since there's already a shortage because nobody thought to stockpile them in case of emergency, regular people buying up the masks is just going to set us all back even further. As for the virus being airborne, it's not exactly. It can survive in droplets in the air for a few hours, such as those expelled by coughs or sneezes, sure, but it's not exactly going to be swept across the world by the wind. Oh, and if a person is already infected, wearing mask actually does help a lot, as it prevents them from coughing and sneezing the virus out into the environment, but they should really just stay at home and let others get groceries for them instead of running the risk of spreading it.

Masks arent pointless. Just because its unlikely that you may come into contact with someone who has it doesnt mean you shouldnt wear one. Better safe than sorry.

Kaya was a bit too conspiratorial this time, masks are pointless for people other than medical staff because they're unlikely to be exposed to it, but medical staff are constantly exposed, and normal people are unlikely to properly apply and wear those masks.
