2020-12-04 14:30:47 +0000 UTCI don't think people realize Slippi could be seen as a substitute for Smash Ultimate and that that's literally why Nintendo has to be such hardasses about it. Yes, fuck Nintendo cracking down on GBA emulation. Fuck Nintendo for those Age of Calamity takedowns. And fuck Nintendo for Mario 3D All-Stars being a limited release (though money's on them backtracking that next year). But they know how big the Melee fanbase is. And they know that if they allow a major tournament to happen with pirated software and emulated online play it would generate a huge interest in Slippi and people would not buy Smash Ultimate and cancel their Nintendo Online to play Melee through Slippi, instead. Unlike GBA emulation or letsplays, Nintendo is completely right about the tournament posing a threat to their business.
