I probably still would've. I wasn't jobless, and could definitely still afford a luxury item of five dollars a month for hours of entertainment. During/after working double and even triple shifts I would've loved to be able to get some amount of joy in an otherwise bad situation. As someone who has lived in her car in the past, I have to disagree with Charlie and Andrew. I personally don't like the argument of "But they still get money so it's fine!" It's not. It's humiliating. I'm lucky enough to have had friends who let me come over to shower and wash my clothes. They've given me gas money and even paid some of my bills. I can't even begin to describe how thankful and grateful I am for that. But one of the things I love the most is that they kept my situation to themselves. If they recorded these things and put it up for potential millions to see, it would've been mortifying. And my situation was still better than theirs, so I can't even begin to understand what they feel like. And just because they agree to be in the video doesn't mean they're actually fine with it. When you're in that desperate of a position, you pretty much feel obligated to do whatever the other person asks. Overall, I think Jackson is right. It's exploitative and the filming of these acts shouldn't be encouraged. They've already lost most of their dignity, don't shred the small amount they have left

I'm with Jackson on this. If I was homeless and eventually got back on my feet I wouldn't want footage of me at my lowest blasted out there for even more people to see. Like holy shit let people keep their pride.

In my opinion it's just that consent from the recipient is a little bit muddled in these situations. The homeless person is kind of at the mercy of the person donating. Like say the homeless person had a family and desperately needed the money to feed his children, he would do whatever the YouTuber asks of him for the money. That's not really consent even if he says yes, because he's dependant. Even if the YouTuber said it's ok to say no and he would still receive the money, the homeless person might feel obligated to the YouTuber, and agree to be on camera even if otherwise he wouldn't want to. Yeah I guess that's the nature of transaction, but I don't really like to make people in need feel obligated to me if it's under the pretense of donation. To avoid that I just wouldn't ask for something in return at all, even if it's just to be on camera for two seconds.

I completely agree with Jackson on YouTubers giving money to people on camera. I've said that for ages. You can help people without exploitation. Some of those people may not want their moment, which may be their worst (being homeless or whatever is happening in their life), on camera or online. I believe posting about it is a way to pat yourself on the back. I feel like most of those doing it for views or likes or whatever are douchebags and doing it purely for their own ego.

Holy hell this episode blew me. Jackson you are correct on the charity thing. Show Charlie and Andrew the latest Gus Johnson video and hopefully they get your point. You can’t deny it feels very exploitative. No ones saying homeless people getting money regardless of how is bad.
