I do structural engineering and holy shit we have so many contractors and independents trying to build houses with wood prices 5-8X higher than a year ago. Where im at prices have been way down for a few months now luckily but wow it was crazy how many people wanted to build even with increased prices.

To jacksons credit, there absolutely is a timber shortage and not just in Australia, but in the U.S too. I work in new construction, and for the past year and a half there has been a massive price increase on lumber, that is only now starting to go down. Many of the contractors I work for had quit building altogether, or cut down to a small fraction of what they were building. It's been awful for the new construction industry all around, from carpenters to plumbers.
