This is like a year and a half late but one thing that always fucks me up about religion (at least Abrahamic religions) is this: So God is this omnipotent, omniscient being right? IF he wanted people to live a certain way, and be good, and do somethings and avoid others, and worship him and whatever; he could literally show his face on the clouds like Mufasa and directly tell people what his will actually is. He could be all like: "Hey dickheads! Listen up cause there's an exam coming and I'm gonna fuck you up if you fail: No killing, no stealing, no buttfucking, and you need to go to church once a week. Now fuck off and eat some pork or something, I don't care." Instead what he does is, whisper some desert dweller in the ear, who's probably having a heatstroke at the moment and can't even understand him properly, and trusts him to convince everyone on earth. And if you question the guy, who very much seems like he's making shit up to get out of a sticky situation, you're doomed for eternity. This is just abusive behavior if you ask me. And even if everything about it is true, makes me want to not worship him out of spite.

Apparently the Sodom and gomorrah thing was taken out of context as propaganda for the devout Christian bigots to say God doesn't approve of gays. But the actual context of the story was that it was a lawless land where they were raping people and do all sorts of terrible things so as a last chance God sent down angels to search the village for anyone who wasn't full of sin. And the first people the angels visit was Lot and his wife and 2 daughters. And when Lot is talking to the angels the other townspeople pull up and say hey new meat and try to rape the angels so the angels basically say to God Lot and his family are the only decent people here so then God says okay walk from the town in a straight line don't look back and the wife looks back and dies. And because they lived in the middle of nowhere and there was no internet or form of communication his daughters thought they were the only people left so the 2 of them took turns raping their dad till they got pregnant....the Bible is a weird book. And yeah prior to Jesus this whole love stuff in Christianity didn't exist, God was basically obey me and I'll allow you to join me in heaven disobey and get smited. But people are free to enjoy their religion.

You guys are too often conflating Jesus with the Old Testament God, Yahweh. Jesus was, especially at the time, a radical pacifist hippy who completely subverted the morality of the ancient Greco-Roman world (just read some Nietzsche). Yahweh, on the other hand, is metal as fuck: he’s a vengeful, omnipotent being who will destroy anyone who transgresses his rules. The Jews being “God’s chosen people” isn’t a source of pride, but anxiety: they have the burden of appeasing a god who can commit horrific acts of mass murder if displeased.

i mean no religion makes much sense people here are bickering over minor details when not one person on the earth has the complete picture, why even get upset at the boys just messing around on the pod

I’ve been back and forth as to whether or not god is real I definitely lean more towards the atheists side just cuz things don’t make sense on the other side

I'm pretty sure Sodom and Gamora was slightly off, too. When I heard it, they angry mob refused the offer to rape his virgin daughters because they wanted to rape the pretty people (the angels) that had come into the man's house. Which in hindsight is probably why they named butt sex sodomy.

First off, sodomy was named after Sodom as basically a smear campaign against gay sex and not the other way around. Sorry for using "sodomy" and "smear" in the same sentence. Second, Noah's sons also got to bring their wives onto the ark. So Noah didn't fuck his kids, but it's implied that his grandkids were all fucking their cousins. Which is why I believe the ark finally went ashore in Alabama.

This was a fun episode,I was wondering if you guys had any spooky (doesn’t have to be supernatural) experiences from the ghost talk.

I had a couple psychedelic spiritual experiences and after that I looked back into religion and realized that no one really has the answers but there is common themes that makes sense through out most of them. After I realized that I came to the conclusion that there is some type of higher power and I just pick certain things from different religions that make sense to me. Also most of y’all’s criticism is about Abrahamic religions look into more eastern religions like Buddhism and Hinduism some things make more sense in the lens’s that they look at things.

When I was a child I was in Sunday school, my mom worked at the church at the time, me being a 5th grader and genuinely curious posed a question. The topic at hand was about Moses parting the Red Sea and the journey that they took. It was a 40 year long journey so naturally I asked ‘wasn’t the life expectancy rather short at the time? Probably around 40 years, so how wouldn’t most have died not even if malnutrition but of natural cause?’ I was kicked out of Sunday school and told that ‘I was out of place for questioning gods will’. 5th grade me even understood the circular logic in that.

most "anti religion" content is really just anti christianity. like people don't seem to realize there's thousands of religions besides christianity and most the stuff they critisize don't apply outside the abrahamic ones. i agree with a lot of the boys points but even when they were talking about stuff like eternal hell that's something that doesn't apply the same in judaism and islam like it does christianity. religion as a whole is a lot more nuanced than that.

I think at this point atheism fourms (like reddit) are more about anti-christianity than it is about simply not believing in a higher power. I want to be religious again but it seems impossible now, everyone and everything seems to be so against it
