I always say if they were not confined to that island then they would rule the world and I would be perfectly ok with that. A beautiful and disciplined culture full of good people. The US is garbage in comparison

You can tell everyone takes pride in themselfs and the country. Beautiful place I wish I could have made it to harijuku but I didn’t have time!!!

And then Kaya is married so it could be he’s going on these travel trips with his wife. I do agree though, it would be nice to have them meet up for a special event or something.

2024-05-05 23:36:22 +0000 UTCI gotta crush andrew’s image of Japan a little. There ARE very extremely crowded trains in Japan/tokyo. But generally only during rush hour or if there’s a big festival or event. And only in the direction towards people going to work/the events. Obviously if you’re going the other way it’ll be fine. Some of the trains I used to ride to work were so crowded I couldn’t fully inflate my lungs. Once my feet weren’t even touching the floor, I was just being held up by the sheer force of the people crushing me. The trains don’t come every 30 seconds. More like 3-6 minutes later during the peak hours. But it’s not as easy as “just taking the next train” maybe you’re timing it to get to work 15 minutes early, but if you miss one train maybe the next one is a local, not an express, so it’ll be much slower. So you take the local or you wait for the next express and you lost like 6 minutes. Then maybe you have to transfer and you have to take a much later transfer train because you miss the one you usually take and then maybe you lost another 6 minutes and now you’re almost late to work. Unless you’re planning to be like 30+ minutes early to work every day it’s kind of a time pinch to “just take the next train” especially if you need a specific train (either a local, express, semi express, etc) so you might have to wait for a couple of trains later. Also the escalator thing is on really in the Tokyo (maybe Kanto?) area, and then the opposite around Osaka like you said. In Kyushu where I live now it is a free for all and people stand on either side, or stand two people beside each other so nobody can pass them. There’s no rule about standing on a certain side or walking on a certain side. And walking in general on the escalators is very rare in Kyushu. Also there is plenty of countryside in Japan where it’s just nothing. And just fields or whatever. There definitely isn’t buildings and stuff EVERYWHERE
