The reason they had ANYTHING resembling technology in ATLA was manually powered by firebenders. They didn't have close to the tech understanding we did in the 1850s.

2020-10-02 20:56:20 +0000 UTCAnd aang did NOT master the elements in one year. He says in the finale he needs more time to master firebending and Toph says his earthbending could use some work. I dont know about water, but aang only learned all four elements, he didn't master them.
