There are indeed games. Fate/Stay Night, UBW, and Heaven's Feel are all adaptations of different routes from a visual novel. There are also the Fate/Extra games, and then there is a very popular mobile game called Fate/Grand Order that is also producing anime. So far FGO has only animated the prologue, and then the last several (and most popular arcs) of the first half of the game. My hope though is that they either make the rest of the first half or they start animating the second half of the game.

It had a better introduction to the universe, but the adaption was somewhat rushed and the animation is more dated. Visual novel wise, Fate zero came out after stay/night, ubw, and heavens (the three main routes) but it was the last one to be released of the fate series. But anime wise, Zero does have a better introduction than UBW. Zero has some spoilers for UBW, and HF But since there's so much going on in the series, some of they might be overlooked/not realized which isn't TOO bad. The watch order would have been way less confusing if they had done the 2006 adaption properly (which is the first route) because new fans either start with Fate Zero or UBW. Ideally it's best to play the first route on the visual novel aka fate route (rather than watch the 2006 adaption) then watch the anime, but that may be too much back of forth. Overall Fate Zero could stand as its own adaption since it was done so well.

I'm interested to see your reaction to Zero when it uploads. Watching that one first, you'd completely understand this episode I think. Chronologically, it's Zero first. Johnny has it backwards unfortunately. Zero came first, in 2011, and this one 2014/15 I think.

It seems confusing at first which everyone who watches Fate for the first time is inevitable to that, but as time goes on and the more episodes you watch, it will become straight forward as to what the show is about.
