Also they mentioned that kirei was an executor in episode 2. Executors are basically trained assasins of the church who hunt mages that have gone against the will of God. Basically they hunt heretics or mages that use magic to do evil. Also the clothes kirei wears are Bullet proof to counter kiritsugu. Seems you didn't question how the man was just tanking bullets lol

But kirei feels like he's unworthy and can't understand why it picked him cause he feels like he has no desires or wishes to fulfill and that he's an empty person
