Okay on Chris's point kirei didn't know what he wanted at the beginning but when he read emiyas file and how he lived he realized that he felt that emiya was someone he could relate to. Thus, it started his obsession with emiya and wanting to meet him because he thought that if he could learn what motivates emiya he could learn about what motivates himself since he thought they were very similar people. However, in this episode kirei finds out from irisviel that the connection he felt from emiya was not something he could relate to and that kirei and emiya were actually complete opposites. Thus, his purpose has now molded into wanting to destroy Emiya and everything that he stood for because kirei disagrees with his ideals. What kirei seems to want is actually conflict and there have been lots of hints of this based on how he gets off on watching the suffering of others.
