Ilya also saw Berserker as a second father figure that should have been Kiritusugu, but since he didn't win the holly grail war as promised to the Einzberns he was no longer able to return back to the castle and he was never able to see his own daughter again. 5 years after the 4th holly grail war Kiritsugu died when he had already adopted Shirou cuz he was cursed by the holly grail for rejecting it so it was slowly killing him which is why Kiritsugu looks so tired and weak in the flashbacks with Shirou specifically the moment when they were looking up at the moon was his very last moments before passing away.

2022-05-22 21:22:04 +0000 UTCIlya felt like kiritsugu abandoned her his actual child and instead chose some other random kid to raise so she is interested in shirou because she wants to know why kiritsugu picked him over her. Remember at the end of zero kiritsugu could have chosen to wish to be with his wife and child ilya happily if he wanted but he rejected that wish. She also wants to know what happend to kiritsugu and why he never came back for her cause she doest know hes dead at this point
