I know I am late but it was already proven that Lyza has nothing to do with Reg being made. In the first couple of episodes the notes made by Lyza specified that the first time she saw Reg he was stalking her and trying to make himself not be seen and watching Lyza but Lyza noticed him anyways.

2022-09-15 18:41:28 +0000 UTCThe abyss def seems more like a trap. There are theories that it is a living organism and the curse is just a method to keep them inside. Nothing has been confirmed so its just speculation, but it does kind of seem like one of those carnivorous plants that are easy for prey to fall in but not get out. And they werent fighting the orbed piercer to train or to teach reg about the abyss, they were just trying to kill it so it wouldn't be stomping around nanachis little territory anymore. And yes, it shed its quills last minute in order to escape regs grasp and dash away. Nanachi basically HAD to use radio comms in order to instruct reg what to do, because that way even reg had no clue what he was going to do. Since the orbed piercer can basically predict regs actions, the only way to get around that, is if reg doesnt know what hes about to do. Thats why nanachi tells him "look up and really commit to it" before telling him to jump right. In order to catch it off guard, reg cannot telegraph his next move by knowing what his next move is.
