You may have also missed that Asuna's family owns the company that was tasked with maintaining the SAO servers when the original company declared bankruptcy. So, she's a little important, wealth wise. This guy (a long time family friend) is in charge of maintaining the servers, and wants in to the family. That much was explained here in the episode.

2023-07-29 19:53:02 +0000 UTCagree the funny thing is ppl really got the show twisted most people linked end of s1 with s2 which actually is solid on its own. and even then its just that weird incest mindset imo. the only arc i did not care for was the fill between part 1 and 2 of s2 but yeah agree s3-s4 the best for sure i liked the movie as well
