The story Cid(shadow) made up in the beginning of the show when they first introduced alpha ended up being true, but Cid lied about it so he thinks their going along with it and doesn't know that. Cid is still in the mind set of it being fake so when Alpha (who doesn't know Cid was lying to her when he told the story) is reporting to him in this episode he thinks their playing along with him so he doesn't feel embarrassed about lying. So there is the main story which is the "lie" Cid told developing and then there is Cids story which is the one where hes trying to be the eminence in shadow. That's also why there are things happening in the background that we aren't seeing, like how alpha got the initial 7 together, since Cid is clueless about it hes not really apart of the groups operations. The girls think he knows everything so they never question why hes not around, like the knife scene last episode when he misses and it ends up being a secret base. Its kind of hard to follow the 2 different stories going on at the same time so I understand where yall are coming from. When I first watched this show I had a similar feeling, Im glad it was released more at the time.
