Final page, without printmarks. Actually, I guess that's another step that I should probably explain later...
But you may have noticed previous pages there are lines indicating page trim.
Generally, this is to indicate areas where the page would be trimmed during print (...

Last step, lettering.
I'll post something about font choices at a later time, probably showing a file I use to keep track of my fonts. The main gist of it however is that font choice can 'show' how something sounds.
Example being the more ragged font used for Tails's word bubbles her...

Not sure what you'd call this step.
It's not part of comic making in general, but it's part of how F:NM gets it's 'look'. I use a grungy, sepia toned texture and place it behind my artwork, and then set the different layers to different settings. In some cases, I just fade the opacity, in oth...

Shading!
Shading can cause a pretty drastic change to an image, like suggesting texture and depth.
You may also notice that I changed the colour of some of the likework here, to help it blend better with the shades. Particularly you can see this with the horizon on panel four.
Making a Page: Step 4
Greyscale! I'm actually trying to do the comic a bit different artwise than the original F:NM blog, with greyscaling of the characters instead of having them just in white.
Making a Page: Step 3
Inks!
Like I mentioned during the pencil section, I purposely try not to pencil -everything- because I like to leave something for me to do at this stage.
If you were doing comics professionally or had someone else inking your work, obviously you couldn't do that because they're not ...

When you're working on something, it's actually a good idea to have two views of your work if you can. One from where you're working on the nitty gritty and details, and another where you can see the results at a more comfortable distance.
Most art programs allow you to create a new window for...

When I ink my F:NM stuff, I use a pen called 'Nib Gritty'. It's a pen that I think gives a lot of character to the line work, but honestly, it can be a bit of a pain in the ass.
This is because the jaggedness and varying opacity of the line in places makes it hard to colour (selection areas like t...

The sketch proper. Some things have been moved around and fiddled with here, particularly the last panel.
In this case, I didn't entirely sketch out -every- detail, if only because I wanted to give myself something to do in the inking stage so I wasn't just tracing over my own lines.

Making a Page: Step 1(ish)
Decided I'd share the process with you guys, using page six as the example!
You'll notice I put this as Step 1(ish). The 'ish' is because there's actually a step before this- layouts. I have a template I use to draw thumbnails of upcoming pages on, which helps me figure out motion and how I'm ...

BP Stream April 15
Things at my work have been hectic because we've been understaffed, but I have time off coming up and I'll be able to stream. Hope to see you guys there, come on by to get your free time!

Part of me doesn't consider this done because there was more I had wanted to do with it, but the problem is that 'perfectionism' and 'never finishing anything' are almost the same thing.
All in all though I'm happy with what I've done! Here's the full size with bleed for you!
You may...
2016-04-01 17:54:41 +0000 UTC View PostAlmost done with this page. I want Rald's first appearance to be pretty good... Need some burned out buildings on the perimeters and cliff/rocks in the foreground.
In other news, I've had a few people ask me about tutorials. Would you guys be interested in tutorials? What would you ...

This isn't done yet, still quite a of detail work left here* before I can focus on the surrounding, organic detailing. I'm avoiding doing the organic stuff because that's the 'easy' part for me.
My weakness is inorganic background elements- especially ones that involve perspective. Part...

Something I won't be posting elsewhere for the time being, but toying
with an idea. This is both Sonic related and not Sonic related at the
same time... I'll explain at a later date when I've got more of my
thoughts organized :)

Next BP Stream on the 26th!
Come on by!
There'll be a new page up soon, too.
Also, future pages will be having a lot of background/incidental characters. Any suggestions on random species? :)
Page 3 is under way! Thankfully, we'll be switching from the prologue to the actual story soon. I can't wait for it, I'm really excited to show our actual main characters.
That said, I've been trying to revamp how I draw Mobian ghouls based on how Fallout 4 portrays regular and feral ghouls. F...

Deathclaw Observations
So in F:NM, Dulcy is a deathclaw (sort of, I'll get into that more some other time), However, even since I first introduced her into the ask blog, I wasn't happy with her design. Not... Deathclaw-y enough? I decided I was going to retool her design and go back and look at 'what makes a deathclaw a d...
